12:30 - 1:00 p.m.  Buffet Lunch, Welcome and Introductory Remarks

1:00 - 1:50 p.m.  Topic: Cyber Attacks against Treasury Operations - speaker, Bill Nelson

Treasury operations face an escalating number of new cyber threats and attacks that have resulted in significant losses. Mr. Nelson will discuss the latest intelligence on the criminals, hactivists, and nation states behind these attacks and will share information about recent spear phishing, account takeover, website redirection, and other types of attacks that aim to defraud commercial accounts. He will also discuss the recommendations of the Account Takeover Task Force, a group comprised of over 100 financial institutions, regulators, associations and law enforcement. The Account Takeover Task Force has developed best practices for business and government users of online banking services, information sharing and analysis methods, and risk mitigation solutions that help combat new forms of cyber attacks, vulnerabilities and threats.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will gain a greater understanding of the following:

  • Magnitude and financial losses associated with cyber attacks;
  • Types of cyber attacks and actions one can take to mitigate risk;
  • Resources available to aid in research and expansion of knowledge base.

Speakers:  William B. Nelson, President and CEO, Financial services Information Sharing and Analysis Center, Reston, VA.

 

Bill Nelson is the President and CEO of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center. The FS-ISAC is a non-profit association dedicated to protecting financial services firms from physical and cyber attacks. Members within the FS-ISAC include organizations from banks, credit unions, securities firms and insurance companies. The FS-ISAC fulfills its mission through the dissemination of trusted and timely information regarding physical and cyber security risks to its membership.

Before joining the FS-ISAC, Bill was the Executive Vice President of NACHA, The Electronic Payments Association from 1988 to 2006. Bill oversaw the development of the ACH Network into one of the largest electronic payment systems in the world, processing nearly 14 billion payments in 2005. He also oversaw NACHA’s rule-making, marketing, rules enforcement, education and government relations programs. Prior to joining NACHA, Bill held several treasury management and lending positions within the banking industry.

 

2:00 - 2:50 p.m.  Topic: An Updated Look at the Acceptance Costs: Changes in the Past 18 months - speaker, Emily Boese.

There have been a number of changes in the payments industry over the past 18 months.  This presentation will look at the changes and how these changes impact merchants and overall payment costs.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will develop a better understanding of:

  • Electronic payments and their costs;
  • Recent changes in the payments space and how these changes impact overall costs;
  • The ability to make strategic decisions surrounding traditional electronic payments as well as emerging and alternative payment options.
Speaker:Emily R. Boese, Senior Manager, First Annapolis, Linthicum, MD.

Emily Boese, a Senior Manager with First Annapolis, has been with First Annapolis for six years and worked in the payments industry for over ten years. She has a focus on acquiring and merchant acceptance. Emily’s experience includes extensive work with merchants, leading merchant acquirers, banks, and card associations, along with several emerging payment companies.

Emily received her Masters of Business Administration from the Darden School at the University of Virginia; and her Bachelors of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICIES

Sessions generally will be cancelled only for inclement weather. If the U.S. Government closes due to severe weather, the session will be cancelled.  Every effort will be made to notify registered participants of the cancellation by email. In the event of advance payments, participants may request funds be applied to the next upcoming meeting provided 48 hours of notification are given.

Complaints should be directed to the Education Committee; if resolution cannot be achieved at this level, the complaint will be reviewed by the Executive Committee.
