1:00 - 1:50 p.m. Topic: “The Washington, DC metro area has the worst traffic gridlock in the United States. What is on the drawing board of the DOT’s in Maryland, Virginia and the District?”
Based on a 2015 report by Texas A&M’s Transportation Institute and INRIX, a data technology company, the Washington, DC metro area has the worst traffic gridlock in the United States. The daily auto commuter experienced 82 hours of delays in 2014. This translated into $1,800 wasted in time and fuel for each DC commuter in 2014, making the cost of congestion to DC commuters the highest in the nation.
This presentation will address the policy and planning on the drawing board or currently underway to reduce the metro area’s congestion issues. What is on the drawing board of the DOT’s in Maryland, Virginia and the District? What do the various agencies (WMATA, MARC, VRE and the transportation agencies of the surrounding counties have up their sleeves? Most importantly, what type of funding will be available from the State and District governments and what other resources will be available?
