Hear AFP’s Payments submit matter expert, Magnus Carlsson, share his insight and discuss how the 2018 AFP Payments Fraud and Control Survey, underwritten by J.P. Morgan, revealed an increase in account takeovers.

Speaker:   Magnus Carlsson, Manager for Treasury & Payments at the Association for Financial Professionals.

Magnus Carlsson is currently the Manager for Treasury & Payments at the Association for Financial Professionals. Previously Mr. Carlsson worked as the Project Manager for the SEPA project at AB Volvo and was the Arbitrage Manager for Arlington County Treasurer's Office, managing all Arbitrage issues, debt service payments and investment management. He has also been with the Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLB) Office of Finance for seven years in positions of increasing responsibility and scope including Credit Analysis, Short-Term Debt Issuance and Investor Relations.

Before his career in the United States, Mr. Carlsson was a Bank Analyst performing risk- and credit-based analysis on banks and financial institutions at Swedbank Markets in Stockholm, Sweden. He holds a Masters' Degree in Finance from the University of Karlstad, and a Master's degree in Marketing from the University of Gothenburg, School of Business, Economics and Law.

“Finance for Feeding Our Region”

This presentation will spotlight the Capital Area Food Bank. Ms. Schulz Goldbeck, Senior Director of Finance, will discuss the financial impact of hunger in our region and how hunger hurts individuals and society overall. She will highlight the mission of the Capital Area Food Bank, including health and wellness, building a bridge to affordability, empowering partners, and creating partnerships across sectors. She will also cover the unique operational aspects of diversifying revenue streams, valuation of donated inventory, and restricted grants. 

Speaker:  Melissa Schulz Goldbeck, MBA, CPA, CMA.

Ms. Schulz Goldbeck is the Senior Director of Finance for the Capital Area Food Bank - the largest organization in the Washington metro area working to solve hunger and its companion problems. Schulz’s career has spanned multiple diverse sectors including education, agricultural lending, affordable housing, and currently, the nonprofit sector.  California-born and raised, she relocated to Washington DC in 2013.  She is both a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and her Master’s in Business Administration from California State University, Fresno.

Ms. Schulz joined the Food Bank in early 2015 as Controller and from August 2017 to April 2018 served as Co-Interim CEO. Currently, she leads all fiscal operations including budget and forecasting, financial reporting, cash management, and general accounting.  She has deep experience in developing and managing operating and capital budgets of up to $220 million and in financial reporting for entities up to $600 million.  Prior to working at the Food Bank, she led efforts within several organizations to transform their financial departments into high-functioning teams to help organizations achieve their strategic missions.

“Employer Health Strategies: Agents of Change”

Attendees will be able to identify what a Health Savings Account is and learn about impacts to their healthcare costs while learning about the evolution of consumer healthcare.  Measures explored will include, but not be limited to, healthcare trends from the employer perspective, employer strategies for managing/containing healthcare expenses, HSA enrollment trends, HSA tax advantages, incremental and transformational changes employers are making in healthcare coverage, and the role of banks and administrators.

Speaker: Michael Houlihan, SVP, Product Management Team Leader- Consumer Driven Healthcare

Michael leads the Consumer Driven Healthcare Product Management team as part of PNC’s corporate deposits and liquidity group. He is responsible for the development of PNC’s Health Savings Account administration solution, PNC BeneFit Plus. This solution enables companies of all sizes to provide their employees with access to Health Savings Accounts and other tax-advantaged benefit accounts. Michael has been with PNC for 11 years and managed various corporate deposit and liquidity products. He has a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
